Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the North Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, March 27, 2023) – The victim in this case has been identified as Janna Lee Barnes (DOB: 08/04/1998).

Upon officers arrival, the suspect, Audie Lavonda Brack Belk Jr. (DOB: 11/11/1994), was found to have remained on scene.  Mr. Belk was transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) in Uptown to be interviewed by homicide detectives.  At the conclusion of the interview, Mr. Belk was placed under arrest and charged with Murder. He was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.

The victim's next of kin has been notified of her death and arrest of the suspect. 

While officers are not currently looking for additional suspects in this case, the investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Office. Homicide Investigation in the North Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, March 26, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 1000 block of Teresa Lane in the North Division.

On Sunday, March 26, shortly after 6:00 p.m., officers responded to a domestic violence assault with a deadly weapon call for service in the 1000 block of Teresa Lane. Upon arrival, officers discovered a victim with a gunshot wound. Medic pronounced the victim deceased on the scene.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD's Operations Command, Victim Services, CFD, Medic and the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team also assisted.
